Foot Health Week 2019

Australian Foot Health Week 2019 – October 14th – 20th
Each year the Australian Podiatry Association runs a Foot Health Week campaign to promote foot health and encourage better health outcomes to all Australians. This year’s theme is :
‘’Stand up for your health. Learn where your feet fit in’’
Foot Health Week 2019 is centred around learning more about where your feet fit in to your overall health and wellbeing. You may be surprised at the link between your feet, and the health of your entire body. By understanding the impact of your feet and legs on your health, you can be more physically active, and improve your health. And nothing is more important than that!
Why foot health is important to your overall health
The Australian Podiatry Association lists just a few of the many reasons why foot health is important to your overall health :
1. Your feet keep you active & mobility is independence: We’re talking about the important stuff here: your life, your community, freedom, relationships, health, activity, travel, independence, mobility, and your overall happiness! It’s a tall order, but foot health can help you to live your best life.
2. Your feet tell a much bigger story: Your feet and lower limbs are often a critical factor in developing or avoiding non communicable health diseases elsewhere in your body. Even if it doesn’t immediately seem connected to foot health, the link is real. Think obesity, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and a range of other conditions.
3. Your feet are a work of art! Or at least Leonardo Da Vinci thought so when he said, ‘The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.’ Did you know that your foot contains 28 bones, 33 joints, more than 100 tendons, muscles, and ligaments, and 250,000 sweat glands? Your feet support your entire body and need to work well for you to be active and healthy.
