Foot Health Week Melbourne Podiatrist

Foot Health Week 11th – 17th October 2021

Foot Health Week is a nationally recognised health awareness campaign run annually in October promoting good foot health and the important role podiatrists play in keeping Australians pain-free and moving.

Love your feet and they’ll love you back!

This year the Australian Podiatry Association’s foot health week theme is, ‘Love your feet and… they’ll love you back!highlighting how taking care of your feet will positively impact the rest of your body and encouraging better overall health outcomes for all Australians.

It is vitally important in these difficult times to keep on top of your mental and physical health, and your feet are no exception. Podiatry can help with any foot and ankle concern, from nail, skin and callus treatment, injury diagnosis and management, ingrown toenail surgery, orthotic prescription and footwear advice –that’s just to start with!

Make sure your feet are 100% ready to go for the end of lockdown so that you can immediately return to all the activities you love, and, like all of us, are desperate to return to!

Don’t disregard your foot health – it has more of an impact on you than you might think. Did you know:

  • Almost 1 in 5 Australians don’t prioritise their feet and lower limbs
  • 1 in 4 Australians who saw a podiatrist also had additional health issues identified – including serious conditions such diabetes, circulatory issues, and heart problems.
  • 1/3 of chronic illness sufferers have impacts to their lower limb health
  • Only 31% of Australians think of their foot health when they’re in pain – 51% have never thought about their foot health – a significant number given how much everyone relies on their feet every single day!
  • Only 1 in 3 Australians seek advice on foot health and most Australians still go to GPs despite podiatrists being foot health experts – save time & effort by going straight to the experts!
  • Over half of Australians have had their lives impacted negatively from lower limb pain
  • 2 out of 3 Australians have never received advice on correct footwear
  • Almost half of all Australians (42%) have experienced some form of lower limb pain, with over half of those having to reduce how much they walk (57%) or rendered them unable to sleep (43%), exercise as they normally would (41%) or play with their kids as they wished (15%).

Your feet reflect your overall health

A significant amount of Australians still think minimally about the health of their feet. Feet can reflect an overall picture of your health and can impact your overall well-being. Foot issues can influence so many different aspects of your life – perhaps in ways you haven’t thought. Your freedom, physical independence, mental & physical health, activity levels and exercise, travel, mobility, happiness, work and income are all factors that can be negatively affected by foot problems – and as such can be significantly improved by keeping your feet in 100% tip top condition!
